Officials Break Ground for Mixed-Income High Rise for Seniors in Silver Spring

A new mixed-income, high-rise apartment building for active seniors aged 62 and over, called The Bonifant at Silver Spring, is one step closer to reality following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by local officials and housing advocates.

The project, a joint venture between Montgomery Housing Partnership and The Donohoe Companies, is part of a larger mixed-use site that includes the new Silver Spring Library.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held for The Bonifant at Silver Spring, a mixed-income apartment building for seniors in Downtown Silver Spring, next to the new Silver Spring Library.  Participating in the groundbreaking were (l to r): Montgomery Housing Partnership's (MHP) Vice President of Real Estate Development Artie Harris; Department of Housing and Community Affairs Director Rick Nelson; Councilmember Nancy Floreen;  MHP resident Laura Hinton; MHP President Robert Goldman; County Executive Ike Leggett; President of Donohoe Development Pete Gartlan; State Delegate Sheila Hixson; Deputy Director, MD Department of Housing and Community Development Clarence Snuggs; State Senator Jamie Raskin; and Project Manager for The Bonifant Stephanie Roodman.
