‘Forging Freedom: Endurance, Escape and Rockville’s Underground Railroad’ Will Be Featured in Online Presentation on Thursday, Nov. 11

The November featured event for the Glenview Mansion/Peerless Rockville Speaker Series will be an online presentation of “Forging Freedom: Endurance, Escape and Rockville’s Underground” from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11.

Forging Freedom: Endurance, Escape, and Rockville’s Underground Railroad is the story of Rockville in the era of the Underground Railroad, when slavery cast a shadow over life in what was then a farming town. In that era, separatist tensions steadily propelled the nation toward war. The seminar talks about the brave fugitives who fled slavery in Rockville, the abolitionist network that helped and the endurance of the enslaved community.

The online presentation is through Zoom. Upon registration, participants will receive the link to the Zoom broadcast. To register, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/forging-freedom-endurance-escape-and-rockvilles-underground-railroad-registration-188667307997.

Those interested in the presentation, but unable to use Zoom, can register for the presentation and, then e-mail outreach@peerlessrockville.org or call 301-762-0096. A number will be provided days before the start of the event so that the presentation can be heard over the phone.

The material in the presentation is based upon work assisted by a grant from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), funded by the Department of the Interior’s National Park Service.
