The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated by Montgomery County at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, in a virtual event that will include special greetings and remarks by County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Gabe Albornoz on the importance of voting rights. Civil Rights warrior and Freedom Rider Joan Mulholland also will speak as part of the tribute.
The County’s annual in-person event was changed to a virtual event due to the impact of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.The tribute also will include a showing of “After Selma,” a documentary produced by Loki Mulholland featuring interviews with key stakeholders in the fight for the right to vote. The airing of the documentary will be followed by a discussion on the importance of the day of observance facilitated by Jim Stowe, director of the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights. The program will include a special presentation by the County Board of Elections.
