Story of Will Adams, Fiddler of Ken-Gar, Will Be Featured in Montgomery History Virtual Event on Tuesday, Feb. 15
The story of fiddler Will Adams, who had deep roots in African American communities of Montgomery County from Sandy Spring to Norbeck to Ken-Gar, will be featured in a virtual presentation of Montgomery History at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
In 1953, Mr. Adams was recorded by folklorist Mike Seeger (half-brother of Pete Seeger), who grew up in Chevy Chase. Mr. Adams' family history offers a glimpse of African American life in Montgomery County from the final years of slavery to the mid-20th Century.
The presentation will address how the music of both Mr. Adams and Mike Seeger lives on among contemporary old-time musicians.
