The annual “GreenScapes” landscape symposium of Brookside Gardens will be held online from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. The focus of this year’s program is “Designing with Purpose.”
The GreenScapes Symposium, which started in 2004, is an annual program sponsored by Brookside Gardens. The symposium explores the latest topics related to landscape sustainability and the environment. The event appeals to a broad audience ranging from landscape architects and designers to master gardeners, horticulturalists and urban planners.
Environmental stewardship is a core value of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Brookside Gardens’ parent organization.
The symposium features experts discussing the latest advancements and design strategies to achieve a range of goals from public gardens that engage diverse audiences to landscapes that reduce carbon footprints and are resilient to climate change.
The following topics will be explored at the 2023 symposium:
- Quest for Climate Resiliency: Adaptive Strategies for Sustainable Plant Design
- Soak it Up: Carbon Sequestering Sites
- On This Land: Connecting Minority Communities to the Natural World
- Unlawning Suburbia: Lessons in the Design and Management of Nature-Inspired Landscapes
