Montgomery Parks is helping celebrate July as Parks and Recreation Month with a wide variety of programs that will include Zoo in My Room Zoo in My Room and Foodie Fridays: The Bees’ Knees.
The July special events schedule for Montgomery Parks will include:
- Parks Playhouse. July 23, 27. Parks Playhouse is a summer series of free, live performances to celebrate the artistry of local bands, troupes and groups.
- Concert with John G. Lewis. Sunday, July 23. 10‒11:30 a.m. Flower Avenue Urban Park.
- Concert with Sweet Yonder. Thursday, July 27. 6‒8 p.m. Arora Hills Local Park.
- Strong & Fit (55+). Through Aug. 15. 9-10 a.m. Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton. The “Age Well Senior Fitness” will explore beautiful open spaces, trails and outdoor fitness equipment to improve balance, muscular strength and flexibility while enjoying the benefits of exercising in a natural environment. Registration required. Free.
- Parks Playhouse Junior. July 14-15, 17-19, 24-26. Looking for something to do this summer with the little ones? Bring them out to Parks Playhouse Junior for an hour of fun and entertainment they will love. Free.
- “Zoo in My Room” with Kidsinger Jim. 10‒11 a.m. Monday, July 24. Wheaton Local Park. Tuesday, July 25. Ellsworth Urban Park. Wednesday, July 26. Fairland Recreational Park.
- Foodie Fridays: The Bee’s Knees. Friday, July 28. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Josiah Henson Museum and Park, 11410 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda. Phil Frank, a member of the Montgomery County Beekeepers Association, will discuss the important role of honeybees in food production and what it is morphologically and behaviorally that makes bee pollination irreplaceable. Ages 21 and older. Registration required. $10.
