At the request of the County Executive, the County Council introduced Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA 18-11) to address deployment of 5G small cell antennas in residential areas. A public hearing will be held regarding ZTA 18-11 on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the third-floor hearing room of the County Council Building located at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville.
More information about how ZTA 18-11 will impact residential neighborhoods is available here. Under ZTA 18-11, replacement of tall streetlights would be allowed without a public hearing; replacement of shorter streetlights in neighborhoods with underground utilities would continue to require a public hearing.
