May is Filled with Special Events from Montgomery Parks

May is filled with special events of all kinds that are produced by Montgomery Parks. The lineup will include yoga in the parks, an outdoor playhouse series and spending a day at the splash park.

Some events are free, but others have fees.

Montgomery Parks special events in May will include:
  • Yoga in the Park. Saturday, May 14. Josiah Henson Museum and Park. 11410 Old Georgetown Rd. North Bethesda. 9-10 a.m. each day. In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, join Yoga in the Park at the Josiah Henson Museum and Park Bring a yoga mat. Free.
  • Drag Queen Story Hour. Saturday, May 21. Brookside Gardens. 1400 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton. 10-11 a.m. Drag Queen Story Hour with Citrine (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and provides kids glamorous, positive and unabashedly queer role models. Free.
  • Montgomery Parks Playhouse and Playhouse Junior Series. Starts Thursday, May 19. Enjoy performing arts outdoors at parks across the County with the new Montgomery Parks Playhouse and Parks Playhouse Jr. series. Performances take place throughout the summer and will feature comedy, spoken word poetry, theater and puppet shows. Many of the events feature local artists. Performances are free.
  • Summer Season Water Fun. Opens Saturday, May 28. The unofficial start of summer begins. Row or paddle on Lake Needwood, Rock Creek Regional Park or on Little Seneca Lake in Black Hill Regional Park. Cool off or play a round of putt-putt at the South Germantown Splash Park and Mini-Golf.
