For more than 70 years, the Navy made an indelible mark on the suburbs of Washington, D.C., with an iconic landmark and complex that was called the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC). Starting Monday, July 11, an online presentation from Montgomery History will detail the vital role Bethesda has played in medical science and innovation.
André Sobocinski, historian for the U.S. Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, will discuss some of the hallmarks from NMRI’s history. Among the topics he will address is the survival kit for castaways to the Tissue Bank.
NNMC was comprised of a collection of institutions including the President’s Hospital, Medical and Dental Schools and the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI).Registration is not required to view the presentation. It will be available from July 11-18.
