Silver Spring Village Playwrights to Present Series of One-Act Plays at Silver Spring Civic Building on Wednesday, July 19

“Silver Spring Village Playwrights Present” will offer residents a free series of original one-act plays written by several of the organization’s members, who all members of the organization Silver Spring Village. The event will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, at the Silver Spring Civic Building in Downtown Silver Spring.

The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veteran' Plaza. Those planning to attend should send an RSVP to Lisa Martin at lisa@silverspringtowncenter.com.

The evening is promising “laughter, tears, giant crabs, vampires and more.”

The performers are a mix of professional and amateur actors. At this event, they will be reading from original scripts with “a lot of performing.”

Silver Spring Village started as a small group about 10 years ago. The group eventually began holding unusual talent shows in which the stars performed. During COVID-19, Playwrights Present was formed and members met via Zoom calls to read their respective one-act plays. They evolved to doing talent shows in parks and are now ready to perform in their biggest established venue.

The event is a collaborative effort of Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., and Silver Spring Village. The playwrights involved are members of Silver Spring Village.

Here is more about each author whose work will be featured:
  • Jeanne M. Adams has enjoyed many years on and off professional and community theatre stages. She earned a BA in theatrical performance from the University of South Florida.
  • Tom Diaz is a retired lawyer and former journalist who lives in the Metropolitan Washington area. He has written a number of monographs, books and articles about crime, terrorism and firearms.
  • Rick Foucheux has appeared in the Washington area’s vibrant theatre scene for four decades. He is a Helen Hayes Awardee and a founding member of the Playwrights Group of Silver Spring Village.
  • Shelley Herman Gillon is a Washington, D.C.-area writer and communication coach who calls New Orleans her "country of origin.” Shelley has written several plays and is working on two others. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
  • Bill Schauman is a retired Federal employee who is spending his twilight years playing with words. He has five grandchildren and lives in Silver Spring.
