‘Travelogues: Mosquitos in the Tent and Other Adventures with Edith Purdie’ Will Be Online Presentation on Thursday, Nov. 16
Edith Purdie in Bryce Canyon, Utah
Edith Purdie, an information technology consultant and 40-year Silver Spring resident who spent much of her summer on a tenting trip exploring the Western United states, will share her experiences and philosophies in an online presentation from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16. “Travelogues: Mosquitos in the Tent and Other Adventures with Edith Purdie” will be presented by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc.
Ms. Purdie will share her goals for a work-life balance and relate why 2023 is a good year. She carved out time this summer on a trip that evolved from a hiking friend’s advice of “life is short—do it now” because you may not be able to in five or 10 years.”
That was difficult advice for a workaholic who routinely postponed the major hikes, just doing long weekends. Edith’s trail nickname is “No Regrets,” based on the friend’s sage advice to prioritize and balance life’s opportunities of family, friends, work and hobbies to make wonderful memories.
The summer vacation was a more than two months off-the-grid jaunt. She went tent camping from the East Coast to Utah, then to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Some of the trip was carefully planned and some stops were random, added on from other travelers' recommendations. Edith's husband travelled with her for the first three weeks. The next two months, she was on her own.
In this Travelogues presentation, she happily remembers the highlights, including in Yellowstone where she was lying on her back in the cold, driving rain and counting mosquitos in her tent.
