Preparing your garden for spring, celebrating Black History Month, taking a maple sugar walk and having Valentine’s Day fun are among the special events and programs that will be hosted by Montgomery Parks in February.
Montgomery Parks' February special events will include:
- Everything You Wanted to Know About Pruning. Saturday, Feb. 10. 10 a.m.–noon. Brookside Gardens Online Lecture. Learn about the why, how and when of pruning a variety of plants in the garden. Event will be held via Zoom. Ages 18 and older. Registration required. $15 per person.
- GreenScapes: Innovative Designs from the Field. Friday, Feb. 16. 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Brookside Gardens Live Zoom Event. GreenScapes is an annual program sponsored by Brookside Gardens since 2004. The symposium explores the latest topics related to landscape sustainability and the environment. This year’s theme is “Innovative Designs from The Field.” Join industry experts as they share practical and scalable lessons on sustainable design and maintenance strategies from the field to help take your home garden or professional work to the next level. - 55+ Nature Single’s Mingle. Saturday, Feb. 17. 5–7 p.m. Black Hill Discovery Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds. Join other mature singles to unwind and socialize with craft mocktails and snacks while enjoying the 2024 Duck Stamp gallery, unique nature displays and outdoor deck showcasing Black Hill Regional Park. Registration required. $25 per person.
- Socials for 55+: Maple Sugaring Walk. Thursday, Feb. 29. 2–3 p.m. Brookside Nature Center, 1400 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton. Hike with a naturalist to the Maple Grove and learn how sugar sap is collected and transformed into maple syrup. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided. Registration required. $7 per person.
- Kensington Parkrun: Feb. 10, 17 and 24. 9–10 a.m. Rock Creek Trail.
