A book swap for seniors at Argyle Local Park in Silver Spring on Jan. 7 and a winter tour of Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on Jan. 26 are among the special events that will be sponsored by Montgomery Parks in January.
The schedule for January special events will include:
- Socials for 55+: Botanical Bookmarks and Book Swap. Sunday, Jan. 7. 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Argyle Local Park, 1030 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring. This edition of Socials for 55+ combines the artistic craft of making botanical bookmarks with sharing and exchanging books from participants' collections. Feel free to bring snacks or a light picnic. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided. Registration required. $5 per person.
- Special Opening: MLK Holiday. Monday, Jan. 15. 10 a.m. –1 p.m. Josiah Henson Museum & Park, 11410 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda. After volunteering, come visit the museum during special holiday hours in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. All ages. Admission: $5 adults, $4 children/seniors.
- Brookside Gardens Winter Tour. Friday, Jan. 26. 1‒2:30 p.m. Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton. Spend an afternoon at Brookside Gardens with staff garden expert Kristin Davey uncovering the “bones of the Garden” without the distraction of leaves or flowers. Explore the architectural details that shape the gardens, including woody plants, hardscape and other components of design. Ages 18 and older. Registration required. $12 per person.
