Montgomery County Provides Information about New Rules for Accessory Dwelling Units

New information about Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) is now available. The information reflects changes in the County’s Zoning Text Amendment 19-01 that took effect on Dec. 31.

An ADU is a second dwelling that is part of an existing single-family detached home and is used as a completely independent living facility with its own provisions. An ADU may not be used as a short-term vacation rental.

To learn more about ADUs or to apply for an ADU license, visit the DHCA Licensing and Registration Class 3 Accessory Dwelling Unit webpage or call 311 (240-777-0311).
