The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning a $4.6 million safety and resurfacing project this week along MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) from Milestone Drive to Shaw Avenue in Montgomery County. Weather permitting, the 1.75-mile project is expected to be complete by fall.

In addition to pavement milling and resurfacing, the project will include:
  • Patching the existing asphalt roadway.
  • Upgrading ramps and sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
  • Repairing the concrete median.
  • Reconstructing driveway aprons.
  • Replacing or repairing concrete curb and gutters.
  • Repairing or replacing stormwater runoff inlets and drainpipes.
  • Installing new pavement markings and landscaping.
Contractor E&R Services Inc., of Lanham, will perform the work.

Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits and driving pattern changes. The must slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
