Statement by County Executive Ike Leggett on Presidential Decision to Phase Out DACA Program

“I am disappointed by President Trump’s decision to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. These young people are in the United States in an undocumented status through no fault of their own – and they deserve better. I urge the President to work with both parties in the House and Senate to craft as soon as possible a common-sense program to protect these young men and women.”

  1. Perhaps ending DACA will allow the county to rid itself of MS 13 gang members, which MOCO seems unwilling to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. What the President did, was put it to Congress to decide, just as President Obama should have done. President Trump has nothing against these young people, but we have a constitution and I believe a country of laws. That comes first.

  3. Does this mean the county executive is all for anchor babies too! We let these kids in our schools and you see what we get. It is not just the direct cost but the indirect costs that our governing bodies appear to ignore.

  4. The law is the law except when it's not? Children pay for the bad / illegal decisions of their parents all the time. No one is happy their parents tried to cheat to get in, but they did, and the children still have no legal right to remain. What is really unfortunate is the political class who let matters slide for decades when they weren't legally allowed to. And now the wrong people have to pay. It would be so much better if our leaders were honorable and decent to start with, and upheld the laws they passed.
