Second Community Information Meeting on ‘Restoration Center’ Project to be Held on Thursday, April 20

Montgomery County officials will host a second community information meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in Rockville to provide additional details on plans to open a “Restoration Center” to help support residents in mental health and addiction crisis and reduce overburdening emergency rooms, hospitals and jail detention. The services are designed to assist individuals who are experiencing mental health, substance use disorder, and/or other types of behavioral health crisis.

The in-person meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the third-floor hearing room of the County Council Office Building, which is located at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville.

At the restoration center, a team of multidisciplinary professionals will include nurses, licensed mental health and addiction professionals, peer specialists and resource navigators. The center will provide a variety of behavioral health services including triage, crisis stabilization and warm hand-off referrals to appropriate services. The center will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

In October 2022, a public meeting was held by County officials to hear from City of Rockville officials and community members. The April 20 meeting will provide an update on questions raised at the October 2022 meeting related to procedures for individuals brought to the restoration center. There will be an opportunity at the April 20 meeting for additional community feedback.

In addition to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Acting Director James Bridgers, officials scheduled to participate in the meeting include County Chief Administrative Officer Richard Madaleno, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Earl Stoddard, Police Chief Marcus Jones, Fire Chief Scott Goldstein, DHHS Behavioral Health and Crisis Services Chief Rolando Santiago and Department of General Services Director David Dise.
