Walk with Shakespeare, or See His Unfinished First Play, as Gaithersburg Celebrates the Works of Shakespeare April 21-30

William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play will be found at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn with performances April 21-23 and April 28-30 and residents can experience his works in the Third Annual Walking with Shakespeare event on Saturday, April 22, as Gaithersburg’s Arts on the Green celebrates one of the world’s greatest playwrights.

William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged) will be performed at the Arts Barn, which is located at 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg, on Friday-Sunday, April 21-23, and Friday-Sunday, April 28-30. Performances on Fridays and Saturdays start at 8 p.m. Performances on Sundays begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for students (ages 15-21) and $15 youth ages 14 and under. Tickets can be purchased here.

In partnership with Sandy Spring Theatre Group, Arts on the Green will present William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged) by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. The recently discovered manuscript of Shakespeare’s first play, written in his own hand, shows all of his most famous characters and familiar speeches in a brand-new story.

However, because it is 100 hours long and contains multiple unwieldy story lines, it has been abridged down to a brief 90 minutes. It is recommended for ages 12-and-over.

This will be the third year for the “Walking with Shakespeare” that includes twists and turns of all kinds. It will be from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in Observatory Park, which is located at 100 DeSellum Ave. in Gaithersburg. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students 18-and-under. Tickets can be purchased here.

Walking with Shakespeare will experience William Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays as they come to life on this unique walking tour. It will celebrate the Bard’s 459th birthday with a stroll through the spring air. There will be traveling minstrels along the way as attendees travel past scenes from six Shakespearian comedies and tragedies. Each scene lasts approximately 10 minutes and all pathways are accessible.

Members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a medieval re-creation organization, will have demonstrations of music, weaving, calligraphy and fencing. The program is recommended for ages 12-and-older.
