Montgomery History, Glen Echo Park Partnership for the Arts and the Washington Revels at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, will combine to to present Voices of History and Hope: The Past and Future of Juneteenth in Montgomery County.
The virtual panel will bring together local leaders including founder Jamie Boston (Kensington Juneteenth Celebration), historian Tony Cohen (Button Farm), filmmaker Jason Green (Finding Freedom) and music director Andrea Blackford (Washington Revels’ Jubilee Voices). The will discuss their work to preserve and promote Montgomery County’s African American history through community, agriculture, film and the arts.
The Montgomery history presentation will address what motivated each panelist to pursue and realize their projects and how the national recognition of Juneteenth has affected their work. The discussion will be moderated by Shirl Spicer from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
The program also will feature a special musical performance.
