Recreation Department Hosts Free Job Fair

Montgomery County Recreation will host a free job fair for summer camp workers and year-round temporary staff on Friday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center, 14625 Bauer Dr., Rockville.

Each year, the Recreation Department hires more than 300 summer camp and temporary staff to fill positions that include camp counselors, pool aides and therapeutic recreation assistants. Representatives from aquatics, community centers, summer programs, teen programs and therapeutic recreation will be on hand to discuss the part-time temporary jobs available and offer on-site pre-screening interviews.

The fair targets youth 16 years of age and older, college students and teachers. No pre-registration is required.

For more information call 240-777-6810.

  1. great idea to have a job fair, but if you are trying to attract HS and college students during the hours the fair is being held, you a encouraging they skip classes to be there. Is this really the workforce you are looking to attract? Why isn't the job fair during evening or weekend hours?

    1. You raise a good point, and in fact, the job fair is scheduled on a professional day holiday for Montgomery County Public School students.

  2. But only in one area that is difficult for students to get to. Why not have several job fairs in different regions of the County?

    1. Thanks for your interest and comments. You make a great point and are correct, transportation can be a challenge for local teens. There’s another Youth Job Fair coming up on Saturday, April 5 at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This one is sponsored by the Latin American Youth Center/Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers, and the departments of Economic Development and Recreation. The fair provides the opportunity to participate in on-site interviews and get information about jobs and career tracks in various industries and/or business. More information can be found at http://www.letsgetitstartedyouthjobfair.com.
