Ceremonies Held to Mark Completion of $580,000 Project in Silver Spring That Is First Under County’s Façade Improvement Program

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Councilmember Kristin Mink and the County’s Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 12 to recognize the first project completed under the Countywide Façade Improvement Program (CFIP). The ceremonies were held at the Hillandale Center, which is located at 10210 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring.

Hillandale Center property owner Ben Bran Associates spent $579,804 on upgrades to the property, which now features a freshly painted façade, better signage, a revamped design with enhanced aesthetics and color scheme, a new wall mural and improved lighting for the parking lot.

The CFIP helps transform the exteriors of commercial properties and/or businesses 10 years old or older to meet today’s commercial standards and improve their aesthetic appeal. The projects encourage and create more visually inviting, safer commercial environments across the County.

Under the CFIP, property and business owners fund eligible improvements up front and are reimbursed upon project completion for up to 50 percent of those costs through an easement purchase by the County.
