The next in the series of online travelogues presented by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., will take viewers on a tour of Italy through the perspectives of artist Pamela Betts. The free talk, from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, will entail an overview of an emerging landscape painter's experiences painting in Italy's Cinque Terre region.
“Travelogues: Exploring Italy's Cinque Terre—A Landscape Artist's Paradise” reflects Ms. Betts’ experiences with a group of artists who all were keen to put the stresses of the COVID-19 health crisis behind and explore the sights and tastes of the region.
To participate in the presentation, register at Meeting Registration - Zoom.
During the presentation, she will show several paintings done “en plein air” (outdoors) from her trip. She also will talk about the scenery that inspired the paintings and recount minor trials and tribulations of the journey.
Ms. Betts is a representational painter living in the Washington metropolitan area. Through her love of art, she discovered art conservation and earned a Master of Science degree in art conservation from Winterthur Museum/University of Delaware in 2000. She currently works as a painting conservator in Baltimore. Her work as a conservator allows the close study of the various methods and materials used by centuries of painters which in turn inspires her own work.
Pamela practiced figure drawing from a model for many years before more recently returning to landscape painting using primarily oil paints. She especially enjoys painting outdoors en plein air, where she loves the challenge of observing and recording sensations of light, atmosphere and mood through paint.
