Montgomery County has been continually expanding its recycling efforts to reach its “Aim for Zero Waste” goal. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will join in the national celebration of “America Recycles Day.”
America Recycles Day acknowledges the importance that recycling has on the protection of the environment. For Montgomery County, it is an opportunity to highlight its progressive moves toward enacting climate change solutions.
Focusing on individual action, America Recycles Day highlights actions that can be taken to collectively address the challenges facing the nation’s recycling system. Through the special awareness day, the Keep America Beautiful initiative, and its partners, inspire communities and individuals to recognize the economic, environmental and social benefits of recycling.
This year, DEP expanded its recycling program to include medical equipment (such as wheelchairs and walkers), mattresses and box springs. It also increased the number of electronic items that are accepted for recycling.
