What is the secret to your Italian grandmother's spaghetti sauce? What exactly are tapas? How does your family make shashlik or pelmeni? Do they really eat fermented shark, sheep's head and sour ram testicles in Iceland? These long-held cooking traditions will be the focus of a conversation by a diverse panel at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, as Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. presents “Culinary Traditions of Europe.”
The discussion, which will be facilitated by SSTCi Director Lisa Martin, will explore an array of dishes found across the European continent.
Scheduled to participate, and relating to traditions of specific areas, are the following:
- Georgia: Maya Hall, caterer and owner of Georgian Feast.
- Germany: Raymond Fudge, medical imaging technologist, photographer and U.S. Army veteran (Germany 1972-74)
- Germany: Jutta Hennig, journalist and retired chief editor of Inside US Trade.
- Ireland: Jackie Hoysted, artist. www.jackiehoysted.com.
- Italy: Madeline Caliendo, retired civil rights attorney, executive/ life coach and SSTCi board member.
- The Netherlands: Daniel Meijer, small business owner.
- Switzerland: Maya Teitelbaum, retired horticulturist.
