‘Offutt’s Crossroads: The Early History of Potomac and its Founding Family’ Will Be Montgomery History Presentation Starting Monday, Dec. 11

The “first family” of Potomac were the Offutts, for whom Potomac was originally named (Offutt’s Crossroads). Montgomery History, starting on Monday, Dec. 11, and continuing for a one-week period, will present a free, online presentation on the history of the Montgomery County community.

The talk is led by historian Ralph Buglass, who is a descendant of the Offutt family. He explores when and how the village came to be called Potomac. The talk and slide presentation, which originated in May 2022, covers feuding among the family, the end of slavery, a business partnership gone bad and attempted murder all playing a part.

There also was time to examine a few alleged ghostly appearances in later years.
