Commission for Women to Host ‘Listening Tours’ Featuring County Elected Officials, With First One on Monday, Nov. 9


The Montgomery County Commission for Women will host a series of “Listening Tours” featuring County elected officials to provide a virtual microphone for women to share how they have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the current social climate and other concerns. The feedback from the series, which will begin on Monday, Nov. 9, with a session that will include County Executive Marc Elrich, will help guide the future work of the Commission.

Each session will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will focus on a different region of the County. “Tour stops” will be co‑hosted by the County Executive and/or members of the County Council. The meetings are free to attend, but registration is required. After registering, a resident will receive a confirmation email with details needed to join the meeting.

The Listening Tour series will have the following schedule:
  • Monday, Nov. 9. Focus on the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area. Register here to Join Zoom Meeting - Meeting will feature County Executive Marc Elrich and Councilmembers Andrew Friedson, Evan Glass, Will Jawando and Hans Reimer.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10. Focus on East County. Register here to Join Zoom Meeting - Meeting will feature County Executive Elrich and Councilmember Jawando.
  • Monday, Nov. 16. Focus will be on Upcounty. Register here to Join Zoom Meeting - Meeting will feature County Executive Elrich and Council President Sidney Katz, Councilmembers Andrew Friedson, Will Jawando and Craig Rice.

  • Friday, Nov. 20 - Silver Spring Register here to Join Zoom Meeting - Council Vice President Tom Hucker and Gabe Albornoz and Nancy Navarro. The meeting will take place in English and in Spanish. 
The Montgomery County Commission for Women is both an advisory board to, and an office of, Montgomery County government. The Commission is comprised of 15 members who are appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council, to serve three-year terms without compensation. The Office of the Commission is staffed by an executive director.

The Commission’s primary focus is to eliminate gender-based discrimination and improve women’s lives through:
  1. Identifying inequities in laws, policies, practices and procedures.
  2. Providing recommendations that promote remedies.
