15th Annual ‘Silver Spring Blues Week’ Will Play the Right Tune June 9-15, with Free All-Day Festival on Saturday, June 15


The 15th Annual “Silver Spring Blues Week” will turn Downtown Silver Spring into a week-long party of music from June 9-15, with legendary Daryl Davis and Angela Hill kicking off the festivities on Sunday, June 9. The week will conclude with the free all-day festival from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, on the stages on Ellsworth Drive.

The festival on June 15 will be at 920 Ellsworth Drive, between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue. The Blues Festival and Blues Week are produced by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. 

The lineup for the festival is scheduled to include:
  • The Nighthawks
  • The Teeny Tucker Band
  • The Gabe Stillman Band
  • Memphis Gold and the Scrap Iron Band
  • The Deanna Bogart Band
  • The School of Rock Doin’ the Blues
  • Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Ensemble
  • Rick Franklin
  • Stormi and the Blue Skies
  • Eleanor Ellis
  • Stingy Brim Geoff Seals
The festival will conclude with the traditional all-star jam of performers starting at approximately 9 p.m.

The festival on June 15 also will feature an array of arts and craft exhibitors from 3-10 p.m. along Ellsworth Drive.

The boogie woogie blues of Daryl Davis and Angela Hill will perform starting at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 41 – Sissel Saxo, which is located at 8110 Fenton St. Tickets for that performance are $20 in advance. They will open a nightly schedule of great blues at various locations.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at El Goffo’s Patio, there will be a “Barbershop Tribute to Phil Wiggins. .El Goffo’s is located at 8739 Flower Ave. NEA Heritage honoree and blues harmonica virtuoso Phil Wiggins recently passed. He was scheduled to perform during the festival with Memphis Gold and the Scrap Iron Band. The tribute to him will be presented by members of the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation. It is an acoustic group of musicians keeping the Piedmont Blues tradition alive. Also performing will be Eleanor Ellis, who after many decades living in the Washington area has returned to her native New Orleans.

On Blues Festival Eve, Friday, June 14, the Red Castle Blues Band will perform from 6-8 p.m. on the festival stage in Downtown Silver Spring.
