The Beacon Newspaper to Host Its 25th Annual Free ‘50+ Expo’ on Sunday, Oct. 20, in Silver Spring


The Beacon newspaper will host its 25th Annual free in-person “50+ Expo” from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Silver Spring Civic Building. The event will offer a wide range of valuable resources, informative speakers, health screenings, volunteer opportunities, and entertaining activities.

The Beacon is a widely acclaimed, free monthly newspaper in the Washington, D.C., area dedicated to serving the interests and needs of the 50-and-over community. With a dedicated focus on providing quality content and resources, The Beacon has been a leading voice for older adults seeking to live fulfilling and enriched lives for 35 years.

A highlight of the expo will be the “keynote conversation” between The Beacon's publisher, Stuart Rosenthal, and Laura Stassi, author of “Romance Redux; Finding Love in Your Later Years” and host of the “Dating While Gray” podcast.

Attendees can explore dozens of exhibitors from government agencies, nonprofits and local businesses offering information on housing options, home remodeling, home care, financial planning, insurance, healthcare, fitness, travel and senior resources.

There will also be a travel presentation from Collette Tours, showcasing special trips to Hawaii and Iceland tailored for Beacon readers.

The Expos prioritize attendees' health and well-being and offer free health screenings, including blood pressure, glaucoma, blood glucose, and cholesterol tests. Important vaccines, including the latest COVID-19 and RSV vaccines, regular and high-dose flu shots, Shingrix (shingles), pneumonia, and tetanus vaccines, will also be available. Attendees should bring their Medicare and/or insurance card, if applicable.
