No Place Like Home on the Fourth; County to Host Two Fireworks Displays

Montgomery County will again host two Independence Day fireworks displays on July 4 -- Germantown Glory at the Maryland SoccerPlex in the South Germantown Recreational Park, 18041 Central Park Circle, Germantown (Boyds) and Mid-County Sparkles at Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Rd., Kensington. Both fireworks displays will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Low lawn chairs, blankets and coolers are welcome at both events. Food vendors will be on site. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. The rain date for fireworks only is July 5.

The Germantown Glory celebration will kick off at 7 p.m. with a concert by InGratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire.

Mid-County Sparkles activities begin at 7:30 p.m. with a concert by The Fabulous Bel Airs. Because there will be handicapped parking only onsite (no other onsite parking will be available at the school or at adjacent properties), shuttle buses will pick up passengers, beginning at 6:15 p.m., at the Westfield Wheaton Metro Parking Garage adjacent to the JC Penney Department Store. Overflow parking will be available in the south parking lot by Penney’s. No shuttle service will be available on the 5th.

Sign language interpreter services and other auxiliary aids or services will be provided upon request with as much advance notice as possible, preferably at least three (3) full business days before the event. To request special accommodations, contact a Therapeutic Recreation specialist at 240-777-6870 or email rec.mainstream@montgomerycountymd.gov.

  1. Is there no fireworks display at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg this year?

    1. The traditional fireworks display put on by the City of Gaithersburg will be held on July 4. Details are on the city's Independence Day Celebration page. Just copy the following onto your browser -- http://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/leisure/independence-day.

  2. So, where are the fireworks for Rockville? I think it's very unfair to the one of the largest communities in the county, gets skipped over. Why should we have to travel to Germantown or Boyds, We are not residents or living in those areas?

    1. Sorry for the confusion. The piece in question focused only on the two County-sponsored July 4 celebrations just to let residents and visitors know that there are options for where one can go to celebrate the holiday. Traditional Independence Day celebrations are, indeed, held in municipalities throughout the County. Information about local observances can be found on the Montgomery County Conference and Visitors Bureau website -- www.visitmontgomery.com -- that you can paste in your browser.
