Free coats of all sizes will be distributed to those in need from 4-7- p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Long Branch Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring. More than 400 new or gently used coats have been donated in a coat drive that began on Dec. 27.
The Long Branch Community Recreation Center is located at 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Police, Montgomery County Recreation, the Silver Spring Regional Services Center, Silver Spring Cares Inc. and CHEER partnered to host the coat drive to fill a winter need in the Long Branch community.
In addition to the coats collected so far, more than $4,500 was donated to purchase additional coats.
Coats will be distributed on Friday on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one coat per person. The recipient must be present to receive coat. Registration is not required.
