In Tribute: A Poetry Reading of the Works of Poet Linda Pastan, a celebration of the works of the former Maryland poet laureate, will be presented online from 7-8:30 on Tuesday, March 14, by Silver Spring Town Center, inc. The tribute will be hosted by poet Willie Schatz.

Ms. Pastan, who passed away on Jan. 30 at age 90, was the Maryland poet laureate from 1991-94. She was a long-time Montgomery County resident who left behind a rich legacy of poetry.

To join the presentation via Zoom, go to Meeting Registration - Zoom.

Those joining the event can listen, but they also are invited to choose one of their favorite works by Ms. Pastan and read it.

Anyone wishing to participate should send an email in advance to lisa@silverspringtowncenter.com to let the organizers know what you intend to read.

Ms. Pastan published 15 volumes of poetry, beginning in 1971 with “A Perfect Circle of Sun,” according to a New York Times story published after her death. That story said, “The range of her poetry was vast. A 1978 collection was called ‘The Five Stages of Grief.’ On the other end of the spectrum was ‘A Dog Runs Through It’ (2018), poems that involved the various dogs, present and past, in her life.”

Host Willie Schatz is a poet, editor and grammarian. He taught legal writing at the University of Maryland for approximately 20 years.
