Artist Deirdre Saunder Will Join Peerless Rockville on Thursday, Aug. 17, to Talk About Creating Public Art

Artist Deirdre Saunder will join Peerless Rockville on-site at one of her art installations at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, to discuss her public art pieces located throughout and near the City of Rockville. The free talk in front of the historic Red Brick Courthouse in Rockville will provide an opportunity to hear about the development of public art from one of the area’s best-known artists.

Among the sites Ms. Saunder’s work can be viewed are the front of the Red Brick Courthouse, in Mary Trumbo Park and at the Lincoln Park Community Center.

The Red Brick Courthouse is located at 29 Courthouse Square in Downtown Rockville. Although there is no charge to attend, Peerless Rockville, the City’s historic preservation organization, asks anyone planning to attend to register in advance. Saunder, a former Rhodes Scholar and a resident artist in the Carpenter Center at Harvard University, has lived in Rockville since 1998. She started making public art in 1994 with her first installation at Elwood Smith Park in Rockville.

She is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
