‘In Search of Historic Derwood’ Will Be Montgomery History Free Online Presentation on Tuesday, Aug. 22

Derwood is a large zip code area today, but few Montgomery County residents would be able to say exactly where is the locality originally called “Deerwood.” In a Montgomery History online presentation at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, historian Ralph Buglass will provide much of the information that GPS cannot address.

One confusing “hint” about Derwood: a Metrorail station with a different name is nearby.

Another contradiction about the community that Mr. Buglass will discuss is the “Derwood Post Office.” The Derwood post office is actually in what most people think of as Redland. Nonetheless, Derwood has a quite fascinating history all its own, as Mr. Buglass will detail in this talk.

Mr. Buglass is a Montgomery County native and avid history buff. He has taught at lifelong learning institutes associated with Johns Hopkins and American universities and Montgomery College. He speaks frequently to community groups, businesses, and other organizations as well as at national conferences.
