Metro Rail and Bus Fares Have Increased

The start of summer brought higher temperatures throughout the Washington Region. Also increasing starting June 30 were Metro rail and bus fares.

The slight changes will help keep fares in line with cost-of-living adjustments and allow Metro to maintain its current service levels. Metro's last general fare increase was in 2017. There are no planned cuts to rail, bus or MetroAccess services as part of the changes being introduced.

Most fares increased by 12.5 percent. Metrobus fares increased to $2.25, express bus fares are now $4.80 and Metrorail fares will range from $2.25 to $6.75 on weekdays depending on distance traveled. Metrorail fares during late night (after 9:30 p.m.) and weekend service now range from $2.25 to $2.50 depending on distance traveled. ,
