July is recognized as National Park and Recreation Month and Montgomery County Recreation is joining the celebration by highlighting the ways its programs and facilities can enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures and abilities.
"National Park and Recreation Month is a time for us to recognize and celebrate the vital role our parks and recreation programs play in fostering a sense of community and belonging,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Our Recreation team works tirelessly to provide inclusive and diverse opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all residents. I encourage everyone to take part in the various activities and events planned throughout July and to appreciate the hard work of our dedicated recreation professionals. This month is not just about enjoying our parks and programs, but about acknowledging the spaces and services that make Montgomery County a place where everyone truly belongs."
The month-long celebration is part of a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) initiative. This year’s theme, “Where You Belong,” celebrates the ways in which park and recreation professionals build belonging in communities across the country.
“Our goal continues to be to enhance community wellness and a sense of belonging through our programs, classes, activities, special events and services,” said County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “I am extremely proud of our dedicated and passionate recreation team members who ensure inclusion and diversity while cultivating an environment where all feel welcomed. Make sure to give them an extra shoutout this month as we celebrate National Park and Recreation Professionals Day on Friday, July 19.”
