Hobbies Are Part of Montgomery Recreation Experiences

There's a common misconception that recreation is only sports and exercise. Recreation provides opportunities for people to take care of themselves in multiple ways. One way to is by discovering new hobbies or honing new skills. Montgomery County Recreation has many opportunities to explore new ways to spend leisure time.

Studies show that people with hobbies are less likely to suffer from stress and depression. Activities that get people out and about can help them feel happier and more relaxed.

Doing something in your free time, instead of spending hours and hours in front of the TV, has a lot of benefits. The majority of those benefits are related to mental health and the way people develop techniques to calm down. Whether it means spending time outdoors, reading a book, playing an instrument, or anything that fits your time and personality, can only do good for your mental health.

Having a hobby is also a great way to meet new people, de-stress and have fun. Montgomery County Recreation offers many programs that can become an occasional activity—or turn into a regular hobby. These activities come in categories that include:
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Chess
  • Computer/Tech Classes
