County Public Libraries to Again Celebrate Vinyl Records with a Free Virtual Event on Saturday, April 18

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL), in partnership with Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. (FOLMC), is presenting the fourth “Just for the Record –A Vinyl Day” event from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 17. The COVID-19 health crisis will make this year’s event virtual as lovers of music on vinyl join to celebrate the music, the culture and the special sound a diamond-tipped needle produces.

The Just for the Record schedule of events will include:
  • Noon: Music Montgomery contest. Will feature performances from previously selected submissions of musical acts by residents, with judging and commentary by a distinguished panel of experts.
  • 1 p.m. Vinyl Records Workshop. The workshop on vinyl record pricing will be hosted by Lance Salins, the director of business operations for Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc., and Ray Brennan, an antiques collector.
  • 2 p.m. Panel discussion. Moderator Garrett McQueen, a musician, performer and equity consultant, will have panel members Olivia Ellis Randolph and Dianne Be of Takoma Radio (WOWD-FM), and Daryl Davis, the locally based international recording artist, actor, author, and leader of the Daryl Davis Band.
“This unique program is one of many programs that FOLMC proudly partners with MCPL,” said Ari Z. Brooks, FOLMC executive director. “I hope these events draw a diverse audience and showcase the many resources and programs that Libraries provide to county residents.”

No registration is required to join the event. The program will be streamed live on MCPL’s Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MontgomeryCountyPublicLibraries.
