Commission for Women to Offer Virtual Self-Defense Workshops


The Montgomery County Commission for Women will offer five opportunities for women to participate in an evening S.A.F.E. seminar (Self-defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange) for $10 per participant. The introductory self-defense seminar will assist women of all fitness levels with information that may reduce the risk of exposure to violence and introduce the physical aspects of self-defense.

The self-defense seminars will be offered from 7-8:30 p.m., online via Zoom, on the following dates:
  • Wednesday, Oct. 13
  • Thursday, Oct. 28
  • Tuesday, Nov. 23
  • Tuesday, Dec. 7
  • Thursday, Dec. 16
This COVID-19 pandemic adapted S.A.F.E. seminar includes:
  • Videos, discussion and planning skills for reducing personal safety risks.
  • A 40-minute experience on sample of physical self-defense techniques.
  • A 13-piece, student folio with safety information every woman should know (mailed to each participant following the seminar).
Preregistration is required. Teens can attend only with a participating adult. The session is only open to women. The men’s class is not currently being offered by the Commission for Women. Those interested in a men's class should call 240-777-8300.
