Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said the County will join the Federal government, Maryland State government and many local jurisdictions by recognizing Friday, June 18, as a celebration of Juneteenth. Congress approved legislation to create the new Federal holiday and President Biden signed it.
In observance of Juneteenth, many County offices, programs and services will either be closed or will operate on reduced schedules on Friday. However, County-operated COVID-19 vaccination clinics will operate on their regular schedules.
“I am glad that President Biden and Congress have designated Juneteenth as our newest Federal holiday, and I am proud that our County has been recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth for nearly 25 years, ” said County Executive Elrich. “In honor of Juneteenth, I hope that all Montgomery County residents will take tomorrow to learn about the Juneteenth's significance and teach our children why we are celebrating this day throughout our nation. I also encourage all County residents, as well as our neighbors throughout the region, to join us for our Juneteenth celebration this Saturday, June 19, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m."
