Novelist Georgia Hunter, Who Wrote About Her Family’s History as Holocaust Survivors, to be Featured in Free Virtual ‘Meet the Author’ Series on Wednesday, March 30

Author Georgia Hunter will join Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) for a free virtual “Meet the Author” event at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30. She will discuss her acclaimed novel, “We Were the Lucky Ones,” which is about her family’s survival during World War II.

Ms. Hunter was 15 years old when she learned about her family's history as Holocaust survivors. “We Were the Lucky Ones” was borne out of her desire to learn about her family's extraordinary experience of survival and perseverance.

“In 2000, a family reunion opened my eyes to the astounding war stories of my grandfather and his family,” said Ms. Hunter. “Eight years later, armed with a digital voice recorder and a moleskin notebook, I set off to unearth and record my family’s story. I spent nearly a decade traversing the globe, interviewing family, and digging up records from every possible source I could think of, eventually piecing together the bones of what would become my novel, ‘We Were the Lucky Ones.’”

“We Were the Lucky Ones” has been optioned by Thomas Kail (director of Broadway musicals “Hamilton” and “In the Heights”) as a limited TV series.

At the Meet the Author event, Ms. Hunter will share the story behind the story, as well as preview her new novel, which is scheduled for release later this year. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Physical and digital copies of the book can be found in MCPL’s catalog. Digital copies are available through MCPL's Overdrive/Libby resource at:
