Montgomery Parks seeking Public Input for 2022 Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan

Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is updating its Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan that guides the future development and management of the park system. The department is asking residents to take a brief survey about how their lives are, or could be, powered by parks.

The information provided by the survey responses will be incorporated into the 2022 PROS Master Plan. Residents are asked to provide responses by Sept. 30. The online survey is available at www.MontgomeryParks.org/poweredbyparks.

“Parks and open spaces are so very important to serve the active, social and leisure needs of residents,” said Jai Cole, division chief of Park Planning and Stewardship. “The responses to this survey will help us to ensure our parks, amenities and programs continue to contribute to the high quality of life for all Montgomery County residents.”

In addition to the online survey, responses from a statistically valid survey and intercept surveys will be used to develop the 2022 PROS Master Plan.

The PROS plan is updated every five years and focuses on providing equitable, active, central community spaces that meet recreational needs and protect the natural and cultural resources of parkland for future generations.

Once the public engagement period is complete, the plan will be presented to the Montgomery County Planning Board in November and sent to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in December. The plan is expected to be approved by June 2022.
